Lecture : Modernity & Modernism

Divided into 2 concept
-Modernity - Quality of being modern, up to date, using the latest technique or processes
- Modernism - A period in the early 20th century, a movement in  art & design and literature. - Architecture, advertising, photography, graphic design and fine art etc.

How western became 'modern'?
>>>> Pre-modernity
- The Church > Catholic church
- Monarchy/Aristocracy> Social class system
- Patriarchy> A society are main dominate, balance and equality between gender

1750-1789 >>> Industrial Revolution
> Start of with a bridge called Iron Bridge - A bridge made out of metal
> Known as The Age of The Enlivenment - People start to question about god
> Artist start to experimenting and reflect their work

From here, people start to think about :-
> Rationalisation > Reason e.g. Why doing that? what?
>Secularisation > Move away from religion to science
> Demoralisation > Equality e.g. Suffragette

Typography became less fancy

World War One played an important role in Modernism period.
