Test 6

test 6 from zatul on Vimeo.

  • I redrew the house and I think the house looks so much better and professional.
  • I am struggling to high light the 'Just friend' (on the 19-22 seconds of the animation) I wanted to highlight it because it is the second main point of the animation. Yellow represent happy and a warm colour but I am not so sure if yellow is the right colour to represent positive. Maybe I should try blue sky colour or something.

I changed to blue colour and highlighted 'just friend' with a blue background and white font colour. I think by changing (background and font colour) does make the word stand out ! woopp.

Houses

I drew more houses for the animation. My peers suggested me to make the house more brighter. Go Zatulll !!!

Monday, 7 December 2015

This peer review was so useful because I did some work and showed to my peers and they gave me a lot of useful feedbacks. They suggested that :
  • Bex suggested me to think more of just making animation. She  recommended me to design a CD cover for this animation and make a little questions about the animation to put inse the CD case. This is because the target audience is teenagers, what I could do next is to send it to schools and let high school student to watch the animation and answer the questions to see if they can understand the animation.
  • They also suggested to put © my name and credits at the end of my animation.
  • Making more playful and colourful so the animation will catch the target audiences' attention easily.

Test 5

Test 5 from zatul on Vimeo.
Latest animation.

I tried to make the background music louder but I think by making it lauder will make the audience distracted by the background music.

I am pretty please with this. But probably will redraw the mobile phone and the house. *patting my shoulder*

I need to rebook the voice record studio to record Adam saying 'First', 'Second', 'Third' etc.

Test 4

I am so tempted to separate the time of the typography ('Do not post', 'any information', 'for example', 'home address',  'or your mobile phone number')  in the animation. I don't know how to explain this. but please watch the video that I will post on the next post.

I think the music is too slow. Maybe I should make it a tiny bit louder.

I might need to redraw the house? and start to illustrate a mobile phone.

This is the second point of being safe on the internet which 'Do not post any personal information e.g home address or mobile phone number. I had an idea where a 'NO' with in the middle of the page and a house and a phone will animate behind the no sign.

Between the 6-9 seconds is too empty and I think I might edit the house, adding more details and change the colour etc.

After I had some conversations with friends and thought, I decided to do like draw video in the middle and have a mouse cursos click the play button then the no sign will appear with the house and mobile phone and add some textures too (?)

Title.

Test 1

Test 2.

I am really struggling. I did a lot of sketches to animate the title but it did not work as i imagined. Then I kindly ask some peers' feedback. They suggested that the typeface is not suitable with the theme and came out with an idea of a 'typing animation effect' - as they thought it is essential to keep the internet theme across the animation.

I think it is a good idea and I started to animate them. I found it funny because the idea that my peers gave me was the same idea with my first idea that I sketched on my sketchbook.

I downloaded some sound effect from 'Freesound.com'. this web contains a lot of different sound effects and it is free.

Title test 3 from zatul on Vimeo.

I think I still need to reedit the sound, I think the sound is a bit delay.

How to stay safe on the internet'

The title for my animation is 'How to stay safe on the internet'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/internet-security/11154546/Five-top-tips-for-staying-safe-online.html

From the telegraph's article, I decided to pick a few points which are :-

  • Privacy settings
  • Avoid any unnecessary websites and suspicious emais from strangers.

Images above are information that I will include in my animation.

Typography

UltraNAS intro animation from Benny Box on Vimeo.

I like how the tex jump inside the screen (skip to 12 seconds). I think I might need to choose the right front (maybe 3D looking font) or I should try to produce one manually as I am good at drawing 3D font. I like the colour scheme of the font and its background too.

Colourful will make the animation easier to attract especially my main target audience is teenagers as well as parents.

Peer Review

My proposal.

 Below are peers sheets review.

There are few main points that my peers raised which:-
  • two animations are too much maybe focusing on one topic or do another animation about 'staying safe on the internet' or 'the bad things about the internet'.
  • pick the right font instead of making my own font. Download from defont or speak to graphic students or tutors.
  • don't forget to insert some illustrations (not just type)

Experiments

As mentioned, I want to produce two 1.30 minutes animation. I want to inform my target audience which are parents and teenagers to aware of internet addiction and cyber bully.

Here I experimented with After Effect typography for the opening of my internet addiction animation.

I started with this one but I don't think it look professional. The idea of adding 'Are you an internet addict?' on an internet symbol. I like the idea but I think it is not professional enough and maybe need a bit more thinking.

Then I experimented with my 2nd idea

I changed the colour from blue to red, as I think red is more eye catching and red symbolise 'important' and 'warning' to indicate that net addiction is a serious matter. I like having the title slide into the screen but I am not sure if the concept 'slide in' is citable for the title.

Then I experimented with my 3rd idea

I like having the title in the middle and internet sign on each side. Hmm, now I'm confuse. I might need to think and do a lot more research and thinking.

I also need to do a text so my animation will go with the text and need someone to read the text which mean I need to book a voice record studio.

Practical research.

I want to create motion graphic. I know this will take ages to finish but I think I can manage. I want to do this as my practical side of COP because my target audience (parent and teenagers) are interested in moving image and I think there are too much leaflet our there and bearly people read them. So by animating some part of my dissertation will inform my target audience about the danger on the internet.

This video informed me how other country (China) curing net addicting in china. Parents in China who have their children addicted to the internet, they send their children to a camp with 'military physical training,  therapy session, controlled diet in order for them to connect to society'.

Research COP3

I found an amazing book in the library called Cyberkids by Sarah L. Halloway and Gill Valentine. This   book discuss a lot about the internet and teenagers in education and family.

1.The author argued that at this moment teenagers meant to explore the world not just use the internet all the time.

2.Some parents do rather borrowing money to buy a computer for their teenagers.

3.Parent sometimes seek for the teenagers to help them with the internet which have positive and negative impact to the family.

There are of course plenty more interesting topic and quotes in the book but those 3 points are the main points that I got.

Youth Internet Use: Risks and Opportunities

I also looked at another article about internet and teenager called Youth Internet Use: Risks and Opportunities (http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/704888). This article is more general pros and cons of the internet to teenagers. These are some quote that I highlighted that have make my mind more open:-

Positive:-

  • Internet is a positive tool for student to learn
  • 'There is evidence that computer and internet use improves test'
  • The internet can boost the student to study (motivational)
  • Teenagers love to seek online information that they embarrassed/cannot find anyone to ask

Negative:-

  • Net addicitng - use the internet to escape from real world. 'internet addiction has a negative effect on academics (a drop in grades), family relations (having to hide their excessive Internet use from parents), physical health (sleep deprivation due to long hours of Internet use), mental health (depression), and finance (cost of accrued Internet expenses).'
  • Addicted to online gaming
  • Online harassment by strangers and talking to strangers
  • Cyber bullying

Research Cop 3

For cop3, I want to investigate about the internet and teenagers. As I and everyone is awaring that the internet become a significant part of routine and life for people nowadays especially teenagers. Nowadays teenagers use the internet without knowing if it good or bad for them.

These are some useful quotes that I found from this article (http://www.pewinternet.org/2007/10/24/parent-and-teen-internet-use/)  :-

  • 89% of online teens say the internet and other devices in their lives like cell phones, iPods, and digital cameras make their lives easier, while 71% of their parents say these technologies make their lives easier.
  • 87% of parents who have a child ages 12-17 use the internet
  • Parents who use the internet frequently have teenage children who use the internet frequently.
  • the tech profile of parents and teens often mirror each other. Parents who use the internet frequently have teenage children who use the internet frequently.
  • Eighty-eight percent of all teens say that technology devices make their lives easier, compared with 69% of all parents who were asked about technology’s role in their own lives.
  • parents who are highly educated are more likely to think that email and the internet have been good things for their children than parents with less education.
  •  Over two-thirds of parents (68%) say they have rules about the kinds of internet sites their teenaged children can or cannot visit, as well as rules about what kinds of information their children can share with people they talk to on the internet.
Of course there are so many things that we can argue with thos quotes. I just need to read more books/articles/journals.

Summative evaluation

One of the most important aspects in this module is a synthesis between the theorical and practical work. I had to write a three thousand word assignment and provide least eight illustrations.  This year my assignment is about the Effects of the Second World War on the Homefront.

I struggled to choose an assignment topic and I changed my mind several time; at first I planned to write the about historical and contemporary uses of photography, then I changed to how social media affects privacy then to World War Two. This resulted my proposal is completely different than my final products.  I chose World War Two because I had so much fun with World War One last that I wanted to investigate more about the Second World War, I was also interested in the home-front and how war affected citizens either physically or mentally. I knew nothing about the Second World War and it made my curiosity level increase and there are a lot of published books in the college and public library on this subject.

I have developed my assignment writing, and referencing skills and increased my vocabulary by using Google and some websites or asking my peers. I have also read a lot of World War books, articles, documentaries and looked at artworks and photographs taken during the War. I think this year the assignment was slightly more difficult than last year because the standard of Level 5 is higher. I was struggling to compare two authors opinions to and express my own of view.

While I was doing my assignment, I read a lot of true stories about the Second World War. One of my first ideas was to illustrate a true story that interested me. However, I found it was really difficult to accomplish because I had to use a dark colour scheme that was outside my comfort zone. After I had had a long thought, I decided to give up and changed my idea completely.

I changed my idea exactly a week before the deadline. I decided to do a recipe book because food rationing was in effect during the War. I wanted the contemporary audience to feel the hardship that the citizens went through. I managed to complete this but I am not very happy with the result because I do not think it represents the War much and I do not think the target audience feel that the book represents the War. Nevertherless, it is very illustrative, simple but legible. If I had more time I would love to go back to my first idea and work on this.

Because I changed my idea at the last minute, I returned to my comfort zone and favourite technique of working which is by using Illustrator. I have not used this technique since at the start of the year so I think it is acceptable to do so now.

One of my weaknesses was I did not do a lot of reportage drawings. I kept drawing by referencing photographs, videos or quotes. I think this was due to the fact that my topic was not a current topic but a past event. I did not give much attention to this module this year but for next year I need to give more attention and focus to this module, as the credits will be double those this year. For next year, I will try to find a topic that is more contemporary that interests me so I can do a lot of reportage.

Overall, I enjoyed the reading but was not so keen on the writing. I found the drawing satisfactory.

Cop practical

  • There will be more sketches in my sketchbook.
  • my book is 27Wx11H cm. I chose this size because I wanted to experiment with different sizes than A4,A5 etc.
  • I am sorry if my book is too simple as I changed my idea last minute. I think this was due to lack of time management skill and I always struggle (even from last year) to illustrate my essay.
  • This was my first time created  recipe book. I think the used of typography and layout is successful especially I added arrows and number to the steps, used a legible font throughout the book, quite a lot of negative space etc. It is good to have a lot of negative space so the audience are not distracting with anything at the background as a lot of my research that I looked at have a lot of little spot illustrations at the background which distracted me.
  • The target audience for this book is broad; mainly women or whoever interested in Second World War.
  • At first I wanted to use watercolour but I didn't because I did not have enough time as I am not familiar with watercolours so I need a lot of time to familiarise and experiment with it for the final product. But I like the effect that it created so I might consider to use watercolours for my future projects.
  • Originally, I wanted to illustrate four recipes but I only did three. I do not know why, I still got time but I just decided to illustrate three.
